Neymar was expected to arrive at Stamford Bridge in the summer but Santos rejected an offer for the 18-year-old striker. Neymar insists he has no issue with his current club but that he has his mind made up about a move to the Premier League champions.
"It would be great to get the chance to play for Chelsea. I feel excited about it," Neymar told the Sun. "To play for Chelsea would be an honour. Everything they have to offer is attractive to me. They have big players, they are in big competitions, they have a strong squad and I like the way they play.
"Top players want to be part of something like that. I'm no different. But I'm happy at Santos. If I left it wouldn't be because Santos isn't a good place to be but only because the Premier League is a higher level. It wasn't the right time for me to go in the summer but I will be much better prepared for it by next year."

Newcastle urge FA to take De Jong action

October 5, 2010
Newcastle United have demanded strong action to be taken against Manchester City's Nigel De Jong as punishment for his leg-breaking tackle on Hatem Ben Arfa.

• Van Bommel gives backing to dropped De Jong
•  Forum: Right to drop De Jong?
• Lowe: De Jong tackle devoid of intent
• Ben Arfa surgery a successThe Magpies have released a statement confirming they have written a strongly-worded letter to the Football Association asking for "the appropriate action" to be taken against De Jong for leaving Ben Arfa with a double break of his left leg. The incident went unpunished, even as a foul, by referee Martin Atkinson.
"Newcastle United have today [Tuesday] written a strongly-worded letter to the Football Association in relation to the tackle by Manchester City's Nigel de Jong on Hatem Ben Arfa in Sunday's Premier League fixture, which resulted in Ben Arfa sustaining a broken tibia and fibula of his left leg," said a statement on Newcastle's official website.
"The club has asked the FA for the appropriate action to be taken against De Jong for the tackle which, in the club's opinion, was unnecessary and used excessive force."
Young Frenchman Ben Arfa now faces months on the sidelines after making a fine start to his Newcastle career and Toon boss Chris Hughton was unusually strident in his criticism of the Dutch midfielder, who has been gaining a notorious reputation in 2010. Previously, he achieved infamy for a March tackle on Bolton's Stuart Holden that left the American with a broken leg, and also for the chest-high kick on Xabi Alonso that caused worldwide disquiet when delivered in the World Cup final.
The latter incident saw match referee Howard Webb admit that he should have sent off De Jong but feared ruining the showpiece while Sunday's tackle on Ben Arfa has led to Netherlands coach Bert Van Marwijk dropping the City player from his squad ahead of a pair of Euro 2012 qualifiers. Van Marwijk explained the exclusion by saying that De Jong had clearly not responded to repeated warnings about the forcefulness of his tackling.

Carroll, who came through the ranks at St James' Park, claimed the headlines with a hat-trick against Aston Villa in the second game of the season and was tipped to break into Fabio Capello's England squad.
He followed that up with an equaliser against Wolves but has not scored in four appearances since and was left on the bench for Sunday's defeat at Manchester City as Shola Ameobi was rewarded for his Carling Cup brace against Chelsea.
"What I have to do is pick players who are going to win a game for Newcastle United," Hughton said in the Daily Mirror. "Andy had a touch of a virus last week and if you look at his last performance, he had perhaps lost that edge.
"Shola Ameobi had done well at Chelsea and is pushing him hard. That's the competition we have and Shola started against Manchester City. Andy is a massive part of this club, but we have to have competition in all areas. These are the things we see week-in, week-out."

Davies admits his shock at England call-up

October 4, 2010
Kevin Davies has admitted he thought he was the subject of a prank call when the Bolton striker was given his belated England call on Monday.
England squad surprises
• England call for Davies, Green returns
• Soccernet Comment: Nice one Cyril
• Capello: City players can be key
• Jose: Pressure damages England
• Heskey rejects retirement U-turn
The 33-year-old was named in Fabio Capello's squad for the upcoming Euro 2012 qualifier against Montenegro at Wembley next Tuesday, just a week after saying that he had all but given up hope of representing his country.
Injuries to the likes of Jermain Defoe, Bobby Zamora and Gabriel Agbonlahor have seen the Bolton forward handed a chance by Capello, but the former Chesterfield, Blackburn and Southampton player wants to become a regular fixture in the national squad.
Davies told BBC Five Live: "I have been dreaming of it since I was a little boy. In the summer I was in the supermarket getting stuff to decorate the house for the World Cup and now to be a part of it is just amazing. I want to go down there and make an impression and show what I am all about. Hopefully I can be involved on Tuesday and get some more caps."
"I think now I am in the squad it's an opportunity for me," he said. "The last few years I have played 250 games for Bolton, I have not missed many games and I feel good. If I get a cap I would hope to get in the next squad."
He described the circumstances of that fateful phonecall: "I was just at home with the wife and kids. It has been one of them days and it took time to settle in but now it has I am very proud. I couldn't believe it to be honest. I thought it was a wind-up. I'm really excited about it and it is an opportunity I didn't think was going to come my way."
Davies has maintained consistent form for Bolton in the last few years, and remains the Lancastrians' key player but the player feels that not being a prolific goalscorer has counted against him.
"I think if anything has let me down it's been the number of goals I have scored," he said. "I am not prolific but I have other things in my game and a lot of players that have played with me have done well and it shows I am a good team player, and in terms of a lack of goals I have been pretty steady along the years."
Davies also admitted that the more attractive style of play being utilised by Bolton under Owen Coyle, compared to the more direct style employed under Gary Megson and Sam Allardyce, has aided his cause.
He said: "We are playing better football although we have not won as many games as we would like. But we are playing some good stuff on the carpet and if we need to we can go the other way as well to Johan (Elmander), who has come in and scored some vital goals for us.
"I was hoping (Bolton team-mate) Gary Cahill would be involved but straight away he text me saying good luck and I told him he will get many more caps over the coming years."
Davies added on his club's website that he was feeling the nerves.
"I just have to go along and enjoy the experience of being involved with the international team and if I get the chance to play I will do my best to impress. It is a really proud moment for me and my family. I am sure there will be a few nerves over the next couple of days and it hasn't really sunk in yet, but I am looking forward to this opportunity and I'm going to give it my best shot.''
Coyle said Davies fully deserved his call-up and backed the veteran to impress Capello.
"He has got his rewards for the high level of performances that he has produced, week in, week out,'' said Coyle. "He works exceptionally hard on a day-to-day basis and I am sure he will give Mr Capello absolutely 100%.''

Man Utd eye Lindegaard as Van der Sar successor

Manchester United look set to launch a January bid to sign Aalesunds goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard after Eric Steele, the Premier League club's goalkeeping coach, flew to Norway to scout the player for a fifth time.

Edwin van der Sar: Expected to retire at the end of the 2010/11 season
United have been following Lindegaard for several months as they hunt for a successor to Edwin van der Sar. The Dutchman, who joined United from Fulham in 2005, turns 40 in October and is expected to announce his retirement at the end of the season.
Last weekend, United manager Sir Alex Ferguson flew to Valencia to cast his eye over another candidate, David de Gea, the Spain Under-21 goalkeeper, but switched his attention back to Lindegaard and dispatched Steele to watch the Denmark international during Aalesunds' 2-1 defeat at Stabaeck on Sunday.
Lindegaard, 26, originally moved to Aalesunds on loan after struggling to make his mark at Danish club Odense, but impressed so much that they signed him on a three-year deal. He made his international debut in a Euro 2012 qualifier against Iceland last month and has been attracting a lot of attention since claiming a regular first-team place at the Colour Line Stadion.
"I know that some British clubs are keeping tabs, but I don't know how strong their interest is," Aalesunds' sports director Henrik Hoff told Norway's VG newspaper last week.
"I have said all the time that something will happen in the winter window, but I could be mistaken. As big as the interest is, it would be strange if we don't receive a serious offer."
United sold England goalkeeper Ben Foster to Birmingham City in the summer and only have Tomasz Kuszczak as an experienced alternative to Van der Sar.

City assistant Kidd: De Jong is not a malicious player

Ben Arfa required oxygen and was stretchered off after only four minutes of the 2-1 win for City after being caught by a strong tackle from De Jong.
The loan signing from Marseille was taken straight to hospital and will undergo surgery on Monday after Newcastle confirmed he has broken both the tibia and fibula in his left leg.
Referee Martin Atkinson did not see fit to award a foul but Newcastle manager Chris Hughton said "it was a tackle that did not need to be made."
De Jong has a reputation for unforgiving challenges following his much-publicised kick on Xabi Alonso in the World Cup final but Kidd says the Dutchman is not a reckless player.
"Everybody knows Nigel and he is as honest as the day is long," Kidd said. "It's so sad when you see that happen and we hope it is not too serious.
"There was no malice in Nigel's challenge and Nigel is not that type of lad. He's the same in training and there's no malice in Nigel de Jong."

Toure happy with City mentality

Kolo Toure believes Manchester City are starting to develop the kind of mentality that saw Arsenal go unbeaten in the 2003-04 season.

Kolo Toure feels City are growing more like Arsenal's 'Invincibles' side
City vs Newcastle preview
Toure was part of the 'Invincibles' side that featured the likes of Thierry Henry and Patrick Vieira and, while he has yet to win any silverware with City, he feels the quality of players at Eastlands is generating the same kind of approach to the game.
"At that time (2003-04), we had so many great players and a lot of maturity in the team," Toure said. "Every training session was so hard and so difficult and after training when you went for a game it was much easier because you're used to training with top players and training was so difficult.
"Everybody wanted to be in the team and to do that you had to fight for every single ball. What we are getting at City now, there's a lot of fight and a lot of competition for places and that will make a difference.
"It's definitely starting to feel like that. There's a lot of belief in this club and you need to be at your best football to be on the list to play in the games. That makes a big difference."
He added: "When you're at Arsenal, you have no time to rest. Every two days you have really difficult games and I would play a game every day. I don't mind.
"We all need to put our energy in and fight every single game to be on top. To be a champion or to win a title is really difficult and it takes a lot of energy but at the end you're so happy.
"There is plenty of time for days off when you have finished playing."

Goals from Jordi Gomez and Hugo Rodallega lifted Wigan out of the bottom three and condemned ten-man Wolves to a fourth successive Premier League defeat. • Martinez feared broken leg
Gomez put the hosts ahead at the DW Stadium with a brilliant free-kick in the 65th minute and Rodallega deflected in a second five minutes from time.
Wolves were up against it from the 11th minute, when captain Karl Henry was sent off for a shocking challenge on Gomez, but it was the Wigan midfielder who had the last laugh.
Neither side was able to take control in a scrappy opening, and Wigan found themselves temporarily without captain Antolin Alcaraz in only the seventh minute when he left the pitch to receive stitches in a head wound.
The numbers were then evened up four minutes later, but Henry's exit was to be permanent following a reckless challenge on Gomez.
Referee Lee Mason had no hesitation in brandishing a red card after the Wolves captain launched himself into a challenge on Gomez, catching the Spaniard on the shins.
It was the last thing Henry needed, with the heat already on him and Wolves for a perceived over-physical style of play.
Henry was criticised for a number of challenges on Newcastle's Joey Barton earlier in the season, while he was also the tackler when Fulham striker Bobby Zamora broke his leg.
But neither the 27-year-old nor manager Mick McCarthy, who has been a staunch defender of his players amid the criticism, could have any complaints this time.
Thankfully, and somewhat surprisingly, Gomez was able to continue after treatment, and, with Alcaraz also returning to the action, Wigan set about trying to make their numerical advantage count.
However, if anything the sending-off merely exposed Wigan's lack of invention as they were restricted to a series of wayward shots from distance until just before half-time when Gomez could only deflect Charles N'Zogbia's cross past the far post with Marcus Hahnemann stranded.
Within seconds of the restart, Wigan should have been ahead. At the end of an impressive move, Rodallega found space on the right of the area and passed to Franco Di Santo, who appeared to have the simple task of slotting the ball home from six yards.
But the Argentinian scuffed his shot just enough to allow Hahnemann to get a hand to the ball, and the Wolves defence managed to clear.
Wigan were certainly demonstrating more creativity in attack and, after a good run and cross from N'Zogbia down the left, James McCarthy fired a shot into Hahnemann's midriff.
Wolves boss Mick McCarthy responded by bringing on defender George Elokobi for Fletcher but his plans went out of the window in the 65th minute.
Dave Edwards pulled back N'Zogbia on the edge of the area and Gomez curled a superb free-kick into the top corner to give the hosts the lead.
N'Zogbia, who had been the game's most influential player, created another shooting chance for himself on the right of the area but could not get enough power on his effort to trouble Hahnemann.
Di Santo then nearly caught out the American with a superb dipping volley from 25 yards out, Hahnemann just managing to palm the ball behind for a corner.
Mick McCarthy went for broke with eight minutes to go, bringing on strike duo Sylvan Ebanks-Blake and Marcus Bent for Edwards and Stephen Ward, but it was Wigan who sealed victory with a second goal five minutes from time.
N'Zogbia played a precision through ball for Rodallega, and the Colombian was able to claim the goal after Christophe Berra guided an attempted clearance onto his foot and beyond Hahnemann.
It was the first time Wigan had managed two goals in a league game this season, and it was more than enough to secure a precious three points.
  • Martinez feared broken legWigan boss Roberto Martinez feared Gomez had broken his leg as a result of Henry's challenge."It was very unfortunate - straight away I just felt it was broken leg," he said on Sky Sports 2. "I was very worried."Martinez praised the performance of his players in the second half, two goals in the final 25 minutes giving them victory."I'm just so proud of the players - they got together, they played as a team and created chance after chance. The way we found solutions in the second half was very pleasing."On the challenge, Gomez added: "It was a hard tackle but hopefully I'm okay."Wolves boss Mick McCarthy had no complaints with Henry's red card, and insisted there was no problem with discipline at the club."I thought we played well with the ten men," he said. "No arguments with the sending off. It's a reckless challenge, a red card. It's a bad decision (by Henry). It's just sad for Karl - he's not that way inclined with regard to kicking people."It's a deserved red card."McCarthy added there was "no problem with discipline at the club". "The club and the discipline and the attitude of the players is fabulous," he said.

    Papers: Arsene's day of reckoning
Arsenal have won just two of their last 17 meetings with Chelsea, losing home and away last season, and it has been argued that the Gunners have been consistently outmuscled in the encounters.
However, Wenger, who is set to be without Cesc Fabregas, Thomas Vermaelen, Robin van Persie, Theo Walcott and Manuel Almunia for the encounter, believes his players have enough quality to gain victory at Stamford Bridge.
"What for you is physical strength? How can you explain Spain winning the World Cup and Barcelona beating Chelsea in the Champions League? Football is not only down to physique," he said. "It is down to intelligence, technique, mobility.
"There is not one way. That is what makes it interesting."
Didier Drogba in particular has enjoyed plenty of success against Arsenal over the years, scoring 12 goals in ten games, but Wenger said: "I feel we should not make an obsession of one player of Chelsea because they have a few players who can score goals against us.
"What is important is that we had the ball, that we dominate the game and that we are efficient defensively. Nothing is forever, so we can stop it."
Chelsea assistant manager Ray Wilkins has revealed Chelsea, who suffered their first defeat of the Premier League season against Manchester City last weekend, will be looking to dominate the game physically.
"The Manchester City game was exactly the same as last year in that we didn't compete as well as we should have done," he said. "We did not compete in a physical sense - that is why we lost the game last year and for me that is why we lost the game this year, and that is not like us.
"I thought City's Nigel De Jong was the best player on the pitch and they took us by surprise and should not have done, but that will not happen again. We have to find the happy medium between strength, power, the physical side of stuff as well as playing football.
"That is what the Premier League requires. We must make sure we are up there in every aspect throughout the season. You have to be ready for the physical side and combat it. We didn't combat that against Manchester City and we lost. Some you days you play poorly. It is just human nature.''

    INTERVIEW WITH LORD ALAN SUGAR

Lord Sugar admits fears over United and Liverpool debt

    October 1, 2010
Lord Alan Sugar has delivered a biting analysis of the financial state of global giants Manchester United and Liverpool.
    • Lord Sugar: Why I would never buy another club
Lord Sugar: Owned Tottenham Hotspur from 1991 to 2001
    GettyImages
Lord Sugar: Owned Tottenham Hotspur from 1991 to 2001
Lord Sugar, who headed the Labour Government's taskforce on business affairs, forecast a doomsday scenario for both elite clubs and the former Spurs chairman also had his say on the controversial issue of foreign owners.
''If you are asking me if foreign owners are good for football then I would have to split them into two categories,'' Lord Sugar told ESPNsoccernet. "There is Roman Abramovich and that bloke from the Middle East [Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed al Nahyan at Manchester City]. To a certain extent [Fulham's] Mohammed Al-Fayed and, although I was not a foreign owner, I would include myself in this category of owners who use their own money to buy football clubs.
"How can you say anything about these foreign owners? Roman Abramovich is passionate about Chelsea and football and he is putting up the money to buy the best players in the world, and now Manchester City are doing the same. Yes, it might be unfair to everyone else, but that's life, and it hasn't done much harm to their football clubs, now has it?
"But there is another type of foreign owner: The Glazers and those guys at Liverpool, Hicks and Gillett. Now, I am sorry to have to say this, but they are done. They are gone. They have big problems ahead.
"When you buy big clubs like Manchester United and Liverpool without using your own money and lumber the club with enormous interest repayments on the debt, then you are asking for problems, and both clubs have got them."
Manchester City posted the second highest one year loss on Friday (at £121 million), with Abramovich's Chelsea the top of the list in 2004-05 (at £141 million), but as Lord Sugar maintains it is meaningless in terms of the clubs' business plan, as they are supported by their owners own cash.
"Reckless lending caused the demise of the banking industry throughout the world, and banks were irresponsible in lending to these guys to enable them to buy such big football clubs,'' he said. "They have used the club as an asset against the loans and that has resulted in big interest repayments on the debt.
"Here's the bad news: One day the Glazers, the Gilletts and Hicks's will find its payback time and, when that day comes, if they haven't got the money, they default, and it's a nightmare scenario for the clubs.
"A bank somewhere is going to own the football club and hope desperately that some investor will take over the debt. But why would they? I wouldn't. Absolutely not. Football is not good business. An electrical company, a food chain, yes, why not, but football, you've got to be joking.''
With his own experiences of owning Tottenham behind him, Lord Sugar has nothing but fear for United and Liverpool's current situation.
"Manchester United is funding £50 million a year in interest repayments with a debt of £700 million plus,'' he said. ''If it didn't then that £50 million a year would be spent on players and the club. Same at Liverpool, £40 million a year on interest repayments. That leaves me really, really worried for those clubs.
"What a great institution Liverpool is, what a great football club, but my forecast is that the owners will inevitably default on their loans, it puts the bank in an embarrassing position, and the bank will write off a large chunk of the debt to make it viable for an investor to step in and take it over.
"Liverpool don't need to build a stadium straight away, that's not the priority, the priority is to find the right business model to enable it to buy players and stay where they are, and challenge for the top four places. To do that they need to wipe their debts clear of the bank.''
Lord Sugar cites the example of Leeds United, who dropped to League One because of their financial problems as a warning from the past, but thinks that history could repeat itself.
"It would be an unbelievable travesty if Liverpool would slip away like Leeds and end up in the second division,'' he said. ''That will happen if they are not careful. Manchester United have more time, the Glazers have given themselves more breathing space as their loans are not up until 2016.''
    Manchester United fans
    GettyImages
Manchester United fans have protested strongly against the Glazer regime
However, he does not believe that the Red Knights' bid to save United from the Glazers is the answer to their problems.
"This Red Knights fiasco, well that is rubbish,'' he said. ''Supporters might have passion and love their club but it would be out of the frying pan into the fire, with other debts to the banks, as I doubt whether it will be their own money.
"It's all very well saying the Glazers are horrible people with no passion and they borrowed far too much money, but the Red Knights are not the answer.
"I can see the Glazers selling up and they must be waiting until the world economy improves or some mad Russian or Chinese comes along and gives them £2 billion for the club. I cannot believe they turned down £1.5 billion, as they would love to get themselves out of their debt, I am sure.
"They realise now that whatever prompted them to buy Manchester United they got it wrong, They need to find someone with many billions to spare who just wants to own Manchester United."

Kuyt sees future in strike partnership with Torres

Liverpool forward Dirk Kuyt believes his striker partnership with Fernando Torres has a future despite the pair drawing a blank in the goalless Europa League draw in Utrecht.

    • Hodgson happy despite stalemate
The home side created the best chances, with Dries Mertens being denied by goalkeeper Jose Reina and Raul Meireles clearing Michael Silverbauer's header off the line.
Torres had one genuine chance midway through the second half when Kuyt crossed to the near post but the Spaniard's first-time shot was well saved by goalkeeper Michel Form - although referee Duarte Gomes did not spot the touch and awarded a goal-kick.
Torres has spent most of his Liverpool career playing up front on his own with a rampaging Steven Gerrard in the attacking role behind him but in the last two matches he has had Kuyt as a partner. The two combined for Kuyt's controversial opening goal against Sunderland at the weekend but the Dutchman is yet to return the favour.
"We created a good chance together and against Sunderland and West Brom it worked well so I think we can play well together, but last night wasn't the best game for us or the team,'' said Kuyt. ''It's just a matter of time for Fernando. I said that after the Sunderland game when people were talking about him not scoring, but he still provided two assists. Last night he missed a chance but he is human and can miss chances like everyone else. I'm sure his goals will come.''
Kuyt's return to his first professional club was not the spectacular homecoming he was hoping for as Liverpool were on the back foot for long periods. However, the Holland international believes a draw at the Stadion Galgenwaard, where the hosts had won their previous six matches, was a worthy one.
"It was a really tough game. It was difficult from the start. We didn't play our best game but we will keep fighting,'' he added. ''We created some good chances but so did they, so I think we have to be happy with a 0-0. We can take confidence from this and we will keep fighting. I think the good thing is that we got a clean sheet. An away draw in Europe isn't too bad and we have four points from two games, so we just have to keep going and win on Sunday (against Blackpool).''
Manager Roy Hodgson did not think his side's performance was as bad as it appeared from the stands.
"I thought the problems we had, if we had any at all, and the occasions when they created chances were of our own making,'' he said. "Utrecht did well, they were determined, aggressive and committed, so we knew we had to be at our best defensively to keep them out and fortunately we did. You could quite easily see today why Utrecht have such a good home record.''

Cesc Fabregas could miss Saturday's Premier League game against Chelsea with a hamstring injury - but Arsene Wenger will give the Arsenal captain until the last possible moment to prove his fitness.

Cesc Fabregas' closing down was rewarded with a freak goal - and an injury
Wenger also confirmed that Belgian defender Thomas Vermaelen will certainly not travel to Stamford Bridge, having failed to recover from an Achilles injury, and Abou Diaby remains a doubt with an ankle injury.
"I don't know about Cesc" said Wenger. "It looks a 50:50 but a 50:50 balancing on the negative side. I will find out on Saturday morning."
Wenger conceded earlier this week that his captain had "little hope" of featuring against the champions, but it seems as though the World Cup winner will be given every opportunity to play.
Fabregas injured his hamstring in the process of scoring a freak goal against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light two weeks ago, when a clearance by Anton Ferdinand ricocheted off him and into the net.
Wenger will give Diaby every chance to be involved on Saturday. The Arsenal manager said: "Abou Diaby has an 80% chance to be involved. I am not sure if he will be completely 100% but it is 100% he will be in the squad."
Manuel Almunia, who has not trained since conceding three goals against West Brom last weekend, missed Tuesday night's Champions League win over Partizan Belgrade with an elbow injury, meaning Lukasz Fabianski could start his second consecutive match in goal.
Meanwhile, there was positive news about two of Arsenal's longer term injuries.
"Nicklas Bendtner (groin) should be available after the international break," said Wenger, "and Aaron Ramsey (leg) is progressing very well."

David Villa netted a second-half penalty to earn Barcelona a point from their trip to Rubin Kazan, who once again proved a frustrating opponent for the Catalan giants.Villa slotted home on the hour-mark to cancel out Cristian Noboa's 30th-minute penalty for Rubin, with both goalkeepers coming agonisingly close to saving the respective spot-kicks.
Barca dominated for large periods but not even the second-half arrival of fit-again Lionel Messi could inspire Pep Guardiola's side to victory, and the visitors almost ended up empty-handed as Rubin substitute Obafemi Martins hit the woodwork late on.
The result leaves Barca on four points from two games on Group D following their 5-1 mauling of Panathinaikos in round one, while Russian outfit Rubin picked up their first point having previously lost to FC Copenhagen.
Rubin proved a problematic opponent for Barca in last season's Champions League, winning 2-1 at Camp Nou and then holding the 2009 European champions goalless at home, and Kurban Berdyev's side had Guardiola's men on the back foot again tonight after taking a first-half lead.
Barca had bossed the opening stages and hit the crossbar through Pedro Rodriguez before Villa fired just wide, but against the run of play Rubin took the lead.
Victor Valdes' mis-hit clearance gave Vitali Kaleshin the chance to burst into the Barca where he was sent tumbling by Dani Alves as he tried to burst away from the Brazilian and Gerard Pique.
Valdes almost atoned for his part in the incident as he guessed right for Noboa's penalty, but although he managed to get some of his body behind the shot, he could not prevent the Rubin captain from putting his side ahead.
That was a blow to Barca but they had a chance to get back on level terms just before the break when Pedro side-footed another good chance narrowly wide.
Barca had to wait until the 60th minute to even things up, with Andres Iniesta winning a penalty in almost exactly the same place and fashion as Kaleshin had in the first half, Spain's World Cup final hero being brought down by Lasha Salukvadze as he attempted to escape from two defenders.
Villa, like Noboa before him, managed to find the back of the net but not before suffering a scare as the diving Sergei Ryzhikov got a hand to his shot but not enough to keep it out. The final half-hour was virtually all Barca, with Dani Alves almost capitalising on a terrible back-header only to be denied by Ryzhikov.
The arrival of Messi, who had missed Barca's past two matches with an ankle injury, gave the visitors another attacking threat and the Argentinian drew a good block from Ryzhikov in the 67th minute.
Messi then headed another opportunity over before Barca enjoyed a big let-off in the 86th minute when Rubin came so close to netting on a rare attack.
Martins peeled away from Carles Puyol to get on the end of a deep cross but his powerful downward header from four yards out hit the near post and rebounded to safety.
Even after that though Barca had two great chances of their own to take the spoils, Bojan Krkic heading wide when unmarked before Iniesta curled an injury-time effort over with just Ryzhikov to beat - a miss that left more than one Barca player holding his head as the Spanish champions had to settle for a share of the points.

Brazilian striker Ari struck twice as Spartak Moscow stepped up their push for a place in the Champions League knock-out stages against a Zilina side who were overrun.Ari's compatriot Welliton had been the player Zilina feared the most, after his 16 goals in 17 domestic league appearances for Spartak this year.
But former AZ Alkmaar frontman Ari was the player who made the difference between the teams, scoring in each half as the Russians took their points tally to six from two matches, ahead of home and away fixtures with Chelsea.
Ibson, another Brazilian, added a late third to emphasise the difference between the teams.
Spartak beat Marseille 1-0 in their opening group game, hinting at their strength, while Zilina were downed 4-1 away by Chelsea.
Although Slovakia recently beat Russia in the qualifying group stage for Euro 2012, their national champions have yet not looked up to scratch for this competition.
With pace to spare in their attack, Spartak got in among the Zilina defence early on.
Shots from Aleksandr Sheshukov and Sergei Parshivlyuk carried threat, while Aiden McGeady's pace tormented the visitors.
Welliton went close soon before the opening goal, when his left-footed half-volley was parried out by Martin Dubravka.
Ari made the breakthrough after 34 minutes when Alex's left-footed corner from the right found him around 15 yards from goal beyond the far post, from where he sent a looping header over Dubravka.
Defender Patrik Mraz might have done better but stationed himself behind the line, and by the time the ball reached him it had entered the goal, making his prodded clearance worthless.
Spartak pushed for a second goal but it did not arrive until the 61st minute, with Ari again the man on target.
Alex swung a fine lofted pass from a central position to Dmitri Kombarov stationed on the left flank, and he wasted no time in firing over a probing low cross which Ari, attacking the far post, swept in from close range.
It was nearly 3-0 in the 75th minute when Alex unleashed a 20-yard strike which hit Jozef Piacek on its way through to Dubravka, seemingly close to the defender's arm, and the goalkeeper pushed the ball against his left-hand post.
Ibson had replaced Welliton by that stage, and in the 89th minute he condemned Zilina to a second successive three-goal European defeat with a sweet finish on the run after Christian Maidana angled in a perfect cross from the left.

    mortality

                                                     MORTALITY LEGACY
    We are all mortal being
any moment may be our last
We will never be lovier than we are now
and we will never be here again
when you feel it, its now upon you,its cold hands already
encircling you in an embrace, that final embrace, that takes away you
you look around you,you become very conscious of everything in the world
You see the rising morning sun,the birds in the air,
The trees dancing with the wind, the soft feel of breeze upon your cheeks
You think of the rain, the moon, the stars, you remember your childhood,
your growing up days, the people in your life, your parents, your siblings
your friends, even those you fight with, you think of the moment you had
laugh, when you had cried, when you had thought life was beautiful or
    not worth living.
Now everything is significantly important and fill you nostalgia
You want to smile but instead you cry cos it breaks your heart.
Soon you will be gone and you will miss everything.
you will never see the sun rise again, you will never see the moon at night,
you will never see the faces of your loved ones, you will never cry
or laugh nor think again cos you will be dead.
And leave your loved ones on that day,put into the ground like a faded
    flower.
"Death is not easy for those left behind"
Lets not be afraid to die,but be afraid of what people will remember us for,
so live a life that will affect others positively.
    Give a helping hand today
what ever comes our way,we always have a choice
its that choice that make us who we are
And we always have the choice yo do what right
